The practical answer
Lesscue selects Instagram as an app, not Reels and direct messages as separate features. Blocking Instagram therefore interrupts access to both. If DMs matter during your workday, plan a short messaging window or move essential conversations to an unblocked channel before choosing the boundary.
A setup to try
- List the Instagram conversations you actually need during the next session, and agree on another contact route where practical.
- Choose a session that ends before your next DM check, select Instagram in the app group, and review Always Allowed.
- After the session, open the intended conversation directly and close Instagram when the message is handled.
Can Lesscue block only Reels while leaving Instagram DMs open?
No. The current Lesscue app group selects Instagram as one application; it does not inspect or selectively disable its Reels, Feed, Stories or messaging screens. If you need DMs available continuously, keep Instagram outside this boundary and choose another way to reduce its interruptions.
Would putting Instagram in Always Allowed preserve only its inbox?
No. Always Allowed is an app-level exception, so it preserves access to Instagram rather than only the inbox. Treat that as a deliberate choice to keep the whole app reachable; it is not a hidden filter for separating useful and distracting Instagram features.
How can a small business owner answer Instagram customers without leaving it open all morning?
Set a realistic response window first, such as checking messages after one writing block. Use Confirm to end for a short session between those windows and keep customer-facing commitments clear. A blocker does not answer customers for you, so match the window to your actual service needs.
Will an Instagram website block also stop the iPhone app?
Treat them as two separate selections. Select Instagram for the app boundary and the relevant website for the supported browser boundary. A website policy is not a reliable substitute for selecting the application, and an app selection should not be described as a complete website filter.
Can I keep Instagram notifications while the app itself is blocked?
Opening access and notification delivery are different controls. Lesscue is designed around app and website shielding; use the iPhone notification settings for the alerts you want. Do not assume that selecting Instagram in a group silently changes its notification permissions or guarantees every alert is suppressed.
Should I use Locked for my first Instagram-free work session?
Start with a brief Confirm to end session while checking whether your contact plan works. Choose Locked only after you know which tools and people you need. Locked has no ordinary early ending, so it is a poor way to discover that your only customer contact route is unavailable.
Can I give myself five minutes of Instagram without ending a running Locked session?
There is no casual five-minute exception inside Locked. Its ordinary release happens at the planned end; Pro Emergency access is a separate limited release for active Locked protection. Plan the Instagram window before starting rather than treating Emergency as a break button.
What should I do if Instagram is both blocked and Always Allowed?
Review the overlap before starting. Lesscue gives individual Always Allowed apps priority, so Instagram may remain available even though the selected group contains it. Remove that exception before the next session if your intention is to make the whole app unavailable.
Can Lesscue tell whether my Instagram time was work or scrolling?
No. A device-usage total does not establish why you opened an app or what you did inside it. Record the task you intended to finish separately, and compare your behavior with that intention rather than labeling every Instagram minute as wasted or every session minute as productive.
What is a useful first experiment for checking DMs less often?
Choose one hour with no promised immediate replies, tell necessary contacts where to reach you, and run a shorter session inside it. Afterwards, check the actual messages and the task you completed. Adjust the length based on those observations, not on a preset idea of perfect discipline.
