Lesscue is in development. Product-specific guidance describes the current native development build. Public App Store availability has not been announced. Website screens use illustrative data.

The practical answer

A useful messaging boundary starts with who must be able to reach you and through which app. Keep that application outside the blocked group or add an explicit Always Allowed exception. Lesscue does not separate individual WhatsApp conversations, so use the messaging app’s own controls for chat-level interruptions.

A setup to try

  1. List urgent contact routes separately from group chats and optional updates; do not use one broad social category without reviewing it.
  2. Preserve the required messaging app, then select the apps you can safely set aside for a short session.
  3. Send a test message through the intended route and review notification settings independently from app access.

Can I block WhatsApp groups but keep one family conversation open?

Lesscue does not create chat-specific shields inside WhatsApp. Keeping WhatsApp available keeps the application available, including its group chats. Use chat-level controls within the messaging app for individual conversations, and use Lesscue for the separate apps that you want unavailable during the session.

Is it better to leave WhatsApp out of a group or put it in Always Allowed?

Leaving it out makes that choice specific to the group. Always Allowed is a broader exception across Lesscue groups. Choose the broader option only when WhatsApp should stay reachable in every planned boundary, including ones you create later for sleep, study or work.

Does allowing Messages also allow every other messaging app?

No. Treat each application as a separate selection rather than assuming the word messaging creates a universal exception. Review the actual apps used by your contacts, including any work messenger, and preserve the specific routes you need before a long session begins.

Can I keep incoming calls while setting social media aside?

Build the app boundary around social applications instead of treating the whole phone as the distraction. Separately review the iPhone’s call and Focus settings if you silence notifications. Access to an app and permission for a particular person to interrupt you are different decisions.

Why do I still receive work messages during a focus session?

A Lesscue app boundary is not a promise to silence all incoming alerts. If the work messenger stays available, that may be intentional. Review its notification settings and any iPhone Focus profile separately, then decide whether the problem is opening the app or receiving frequent interruptions.

What happens if I add a messaging exception while Locked is running?

An exception that weakens current Locked protection cannot be used as an ordinary release shortcut. Prepare essential messaging access before starting. Changes affecting an active boundary follow its release policy, while editing a saved group for future sessions does not rewrite the current snapshot.

How do I avoid blocking the authenticator inside a broad work category?

Use the picker to inspect the intended selection rather than relying on a category label alone. Add a specific essential application to Always Allowed where appropriate, then test a complete sign-in during a short session. The important check is whether your real authentication flow remains usable.

Can I schedule WhatsApp access only during lunch?

A recurring blocked window can define when the app is unavailable, but it is not a message-routing service. For a lunch gap, plan separate morning and afternoon windows with Pro or use manual sessions on Free. Review all overlapping boundaries before expecting the gap to provide access.

Will letting one messenger through make the session useless?

No. The useful question is whether the configuration protects the task while preserving necessary communication. A focused writing period with family messages available can be a coherent choice. Evaluate the work and interruptions you actually experienced instead of treating every exception as a failure.

What should a remote team agree before using long blocking sessions?

Agree on a normal reply window and a distinct urgent route, then keep that route available. Share the expectation with the people who depend on you rather than relying on an app setting to communicate it. Start with durations that fit your team’s actual response commitments.
