The practical answer
Lesscue cannot leave YouTube lectures available while selectively blocking Shorts inside the same app. Separate watching from working: prepare the exact lecture, keep YouTube available for that task, then block the whole app during note-making or practice. Review browser access separately if that is another route you use.
A setup to try
- Write down the lecture title and the question it should help you answer before opening YouTube.
- Watch the prepared segment, then start a session for notes or practice with YouTube selected in the blocked group.
- At the next planned video window, return to the prepared lesson rather than using the break to find an entirely new topic.
Can I block YouTube Shorts but still watch lectures in the YouTube app?
Not with the current Lesscue app selection. YouTube is one application in that boundary, so a shield applies to the app rather than a Shorts tab. Build separate watching and practice periods if you need both learning access and time away from the feed.
Should YouTube be Always Allowed during an online course?
Only if you need the whole app available across your boundaries. A global exception is broader than one lecture. For a course with occasional video segments, leave YouTube out of that particular session group instead, then use a group that includes it when the work moves to notes or exercises.
Can I block youtube.com without blocking the learning app?
App and website selections are separate. A selected YouTube website boundary can cover the supported browser route while the YouTube app remains outside the app group. That arrangement deliberately leaves another access route, so use it only if it matches your learning workflow.
Will downloading a lecture make Lesscue distinguish it from entertainment?
No. Downloading changes how a video is available, not the granularity of an app-level shield. Lesscue does not classify a saved video as educational or exempt it from the YouTube application. Keep the app available during the watching period if that video must play there.
How do I set up a 20-minute lecture followed by 40 minutes of practice?
Prepare the lecture first and finish the watching period before starting the practice session. For practice, choose the group containing YouTube and leave your notes or practice app available. Lesscue does not claim to run an automatic lecture-to-practice course sequence for you.
Does a YouTube take-a-break reminder block the app until my session ends?
No. YouTube describes a reminder that pauses playback until you dismiss it or resume the video. That is a different interaction from a timed app boundary. Choose the reminder when you want a prompt, and use a separate blocking period when you want the app unavailable.
Can I open one tutorial midway through Locked practice?
There is no per-video unlock in Locked. If unexpected reference needs are common, use Confirm to end while learning your workflow, or keep a suitable reference tool available from the start. Reserve Locked for a period whose required resources you already understand.
How should I handle a class assignment that links to YouTube from a browser?
Open and inspect the assignment before starting. Determine whether the required video uses the browser, the YouTube app or an embedded player, then test that route in a short Confirm session. Selecting a brand name does not establish that every embedded player has the same enforcement behavior.
Should I count lecture watching as wasted screen time?
No automatic conclusion follows from the app name. Compare the viewing period with the lesson you intended to finish, and distinguish it from unrelated browsing. Lesscue session history records time and outcomes; it does not grade the educational value of a particular video.
What should I change if a YouTube break repeatedly lasts longer than planned?
Move video browsing outside the study break and choose a break with a clear ending, such as making tea or stretching. Keep the next lecture link ready for a dedicated watching window. That changes the sequence of actions without pretending a blocker can identify which clips are useful.
