Lesscue is in development. Product-specific guidance describes the current native development build. Public App Store availability has not been announced. Website screens use illustrative data.

The practical answer

For browser-based work, block selected distracting websites rather than automatically blocking the entire browser. Prepare the source list before the session and preserve required tools. Lesscue’s website support depends on the browsing environment; a research plan still needs a clear answer to which sites must remain available and why.

A setup to try

  1. Write the research question and identify the documents, search tools and sign-in pages needed for the next task.
  2. Select optional distraction routes, preserving the browser application when the work requires it.
  3. Test the required path in a short Confirm session, then alternate source gathering with a separate writing or practice period.

How do I block distracting sites without blocking Google Docs in Safari?

Select the distracting websites rather than Safari as a whole application. Keep the browser available and test the document, sign-in and reference links you need. A domain-specific boundary is more targeted than a browser-app boundary, but the actual site and browser combination still matters.

Should I add Safari to Always Allowed for research?

Use it only if Safari should remain available across all Lesscue groups. Leaving Safari out of one research group is a narrower choice. Remember that an allowed browser application does not intentionally exempt selected website policies; review app access and website restrictions as separate parts of the setup.

Can I allow one article on a distracting website for an essay?

Lesscue does not promise article-path exceptions. Gather the source before starting the writing session, or keep that website available during a distinct research window. This avoids building a boundary around a level of precision the app does not offer.

What if a university login redirects through another website?

Test the entire sign-in sequence before a long session, including the identity provider and any two-factor step. The page you start from may not be the only tool involved. Keep essential authentication applications available and record the route that failed if the workflow is interrupted.

How can I prevent research from turning into unrelated searching?

Define an exit condition before opening the browser: for example, find two sources answering a specific question. Save the relevant notes, then switch to a writing session with optional routes unavailable. A finite research question gives the boundary a purpose beyond simply spending less time online.

Can I use Locked when the assignment may require unknown websites?

That is a poor fit until you know the required resources. Use Confirm to end or a shorter prepared task while discovering the workflow. Locked is better suited to a defined period where the necessary apps and websites have already been reviewed.

Will blocking a browser app stop research on my laptop too?

No. Lesscue is an iPhone product; selecting an iPhone browser does not establish a matching restriction on a laptop. Decide separately how you will use the computer. A phone boundary can still be useful, but it should not be described as complete cross-device enforcement.

How do I handle a useful link sent during a writing session?

Save the question or link for the next research window if it is not required immediately. If it changes the task now, use a release mode that permits a deliberate change. Do not assume receiving a link means every current boundary should be weakened automatically.

Should I judge a research session by its total browser time?

Not alone. Compare the time with the sources gathered, the question answered and the next concrete output. A long browser period can contain necessary reading, while a short one can still be unfocused. Lesscue’s records do not determine the quality of the research.

What belongs in a reusable research app group?

Include the optional apps and websites that usually interrupt research, not the research tools themselves. Name the group after its purpose so you can review it quickly. If the resources vary substantially between projects, keep the selection simple and check it before each session.
